I Don't Get Out Much

My Life of Riley
Hi, I’m Riley Davis*** and I’m a Wedding Coordinator.  Did that sound a little 12-step ish? I have a few things to get off my chest.  My friends tease me all the time.  They say I’m living the ‘Life of Riley’, after all what could be bad… I own my business and my days are spent at the most luxurious resorts sharing a couple’s happiest moments.  I get paid to attend to their weddings.  What could go wrong?

The thing about being a Wedding Coordinator is I work most weekends.  This tends to put a crimp on my social life.  If that isn’t enough when I am at a party or bar and I meet a cute, single young man as soon as he finds out I make a career out of weddings, assumptions are made and he looks for the escape exit as soon as possible.  As if going on even a single date with me ensures the end of their carefree bachelor days immediately.

Of course at a wedding I seem to be fair game for all the groomsmen.  Single or not, (mostly not) they have a day off from their normal lives and look at me as an opportunity to have a little fun at the wedding, almost like a rental.  In my position, weddings are simply the absolute worst place to meet a single man.

Neither of these situations bode well for finding an actual date let alone boyfriend.  My mother and my friends can’t possibly imagine why I have not “snagged a guy” considering the unlimited supply I seem to meet.

But try explaining this to a mother whose only real goal (obsession?) is grandkids.  Mom, I’m not ready yet… this is my “Life of Riley.”
